Do you know what you are allowed to use or copy under "fair use"? Need to know when a document might be in the public domain? This guide will give you links to information and tests you can use to make sure you're following copyright law.

Intellectual Property-What is It?

According to the International Trade Commission, "[i]ntellectual property refers to creations of the mind; literary and artistic works; and symbols, images, names and logos used in commerce." Copyright covers the protection of an individual's intellectual property.

The University System of Georgia's Board of Regent's policy manual provides guidance on intellectual properties including definitions, determination of rights and equities, institutional procedures, trademarks, and filing of institutional policies.
