Information Literacy Instruction

What is Information Literacy?

East Georgia State College Library logo

East Georgia State College Library offers course-related synchronous and asynchronous information literacy instruction in any course and on any campus. By “information literacy,” the EGSC Library refers to the definition provided by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in its Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. We base our approach to information literacy instruction on the ACRL Framework. It explains:

Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning. (p. 8)

These instruction sessions are available to support the faculty of EGSC and its students, and we work with each individual instructor to determine how best to accomplish this goal.

On this site, you will find more information about our information sessions including learning outcomes and sample topics for general sessions in some of our subject areas. You are welcome to browse what we have to offer, and if you are interested in collaborating with the library or have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
