Course Reserve FAQ

How do I place items on Reserve?

  • To place items on reserve for your students, you must complete a Reserve Request Form and a Fair Use Checklist. The information will be submitted to the library circulation desk. Allow at least 5 business days for library staff members to process reserve items. All fields in the document must be completed and the material must follow the U.S. Copyright Law and Fair Use Guidelines.

How long can I place an item on Reserve?

  • Items can be placed on Reserve for an indefinite period, but the library will send out an email at the end of each semester asking if you want your items returned, replaced, or updated. If you change employment status at any time, please be sure to pick up any personal reserve copies, as they will be considered abandoned after a semester with no response to the library staff email.

Can I remove my Reserve items during the semester?

  • Yes, you will be able to remove items whenever you wish.

What can I place on Reserve?

  • Books
  • Articles
  • DVDs
  • Lectures
  • Sample Essays
  • Practice Tests

Can I place my own copies of items on Reserve?

  • Yes, as long as they are not backup copies, bootleg copies, or home-made movies, etc.
  • Instructor copies should NOT be placed on Reserve

Do my items meet U.S. Copyright Laws?

  • If you are not sure, please double check that items are not borrowed from other libraries, downloaded electronically, purchased or available online through any of our library databases (ex. GALILEO), or printed from the internet. Items must be protected by Title 17 U.S. Copyright Code and Fair Use Guidelines.

Can I find out if my students are using my Reserve items?

  • Yes, and we strongly encourage faculty/staff to update materials frequently. If you have any questions about material usage, please let any of our library staff assist you. We are always happy to help.

How do I get started?

  • Locate your materials, complete a Reserve Request Form and Fair Use Checklist, and we will notify you as soon as your items have been processed and made available to your students.
