GALILEO

Helpful strategies to use when searching GALILEO

Finding the Answer to Your Question

Your Sources will NOT Answer Yes or No to Your Research Question!

The sources you find while researching will be great, and they will help you answer your research question or give you more information on your topic. REMEMBER: GALILEO is not Google. Your sources will not find the answer to your question and present it to you.

However, there are TIPS that make finding answers easier.

  • Take a look at the subjects that are linked to the source. Here I have highlighted the subject section so that you can see the number of topics that are related to the source.

  • Read the abstract! You can learn a lot about a source through its abstract. Think of it like an outline of what the source has to say. It is usually found below the source's subjects as seen below.

  • Read the first and last paragraph! Before reading the entire source, read the first and last paragraph to get an idea of what the author has to say.
  • Use the FIND function of your computer to search for specific words within a source. Press CTRL+F on PCs and COMMAND+F on Macs to search within documents for some of your keywords.
  • Read the article! If you have found promising subjects and the content is similar to your research topic, all that's left is to read the article and determine how best to include it in your research paper.
